Audi Debuts Self-driving Car

LAS VEGAS—Outside the Mandarin Hotel, Annie Lien pushed a button on an iPhone app. A few seconds later, an Audi A7 drove out of the parking garage to pick her up. With another button press, the car drove back into the garage and found its own parking place.

This robotic valet service is part Audi’s 10-year program to develop cars that can take the wheel whenever the driver wants a break.

In ‘Hobbit,’ New Tech Mangles the Scenery

He also uses “high frame rate” (HFR) video that flashes twice as fast as a standard film — 48 instead of 24 frames per second — to portray movement fluidly. While the technologies are brilliant in some parts of the film, for most of it they fit no better than sneakers on a furry-footed hobbit.

Inflatable Lamp Lights Up Places Off the Grid

A New York City startup called Mpowerd is trying to change that — not with giant power plants, but with a little $16 combination solar-powered lamp, cellphone charger and Wi-Fi hotspot called Luci.
